What To Believe?

I enjoy and appreciate all of your comments. This one I found intriguing because it hits at the very core of what’s important about Asset Protection.

Recently, I finished reading Michael Crichton’s book, “State of Fear.” This book is an interesting read because it is more of an essay about global warming and public opinion than a fiction novel.

After three years of researching environmental texts, Crichton concluded that there is no scientific evidence of global warming, and he further adds that we should all be concerned about politicizing science. You might be asking: What does this have to do with protecting my assets? Well, what I have found to be most interesting were his comments about the shaping of public opinion and thought. This entails how things that are considered fiction and folklore evolve to become truths, or are considered the norm, and how ideas that may have staying power somehow can be thought of as gospel because they hang around long enough.

In the Asset Protection world, the ideas of wealth protection have a long history of suppositions, fables and half-truths. How can you logically and systematically find methods of protecting wealth without the fear of being in some Ponzi Scheme extraordinaire? Even if the provider you choose has good intentions, they may have bad technology.

Recently I was with a lawyer who told me he had a new foolproof system of protecting his clients’ money. I said, “Okay, I’ll bite. What is your system?” He began to explain the process, and immediately I stopped him and said, “That won’t work!” He said, “Yes, it will, let me finish.” As you can imagine, I was very intrigued about a new Asset Protection process. After a 20-minute conversation, the Asset Protection program goes something like this:

Buy our services. No one will know you own the companies or the assets you have because we
will take title and possession of your assets and money. This will work because our firm is
bound by a code of ethics.

By the way, this COULD work. The man was correct in assuming that no judge could force you into handing over your money. HOWEVER, this same judge can put you in jail because this scheme is illegal under U.S. law, (based on stealth and tax fraud alone) and it is not solid technology. Ignoring U.S. Legalities (by the way, this lawyer resides in another country, so he doesn't care) isn’t a very smart thing to do, AND even if it were legal and bullet proof vis a vis creditors, what’s to stop Mister Front Man from keeping your money?

This technology is the same one that your children employ with you on a daily basis: You give them money, and then you don’t have it anymore! The two main themes of Asset Protection:

Stealth matters, but it’s not everything.

Never trust anyone with your hard earned money because you don’t need to.
