Someone Is Listening

By Rob Lambert - Email Editor

Date : Aug 24, 2006

It seems that my recent newsletter about Bill Reed and The Asset Protection Group has stirred up the pot a bit. I think someone in power is listening. I will have a full report this next week.

Now onto planning for the inevitable:

Late last week I got a call from a young client in his thirties. He had just implemented an Asset Protection Plan to protect his modest savings and some stock he owns in a start-up he is involved in. He and his bride of three years were also hoping to start a family in the near future and wanted to make sure that the kids-to-be were protected.

Well, this wasn't the normal happy or business-like call from my client. He was out of breath and in the emergency room of his hospital. His wife had just passed out over breakfast. She had a brain aneurism. A week later, this beautiful and apparently healthy young woman is still in a chemically induced coma. The doctors don't really know if she will recover or not.

This is a terrible thing. The reason I write about this is that terrible things do happen. You should plan so if terrible things ever happen to you or your family, you can minimize the damage. There are lots of things you can do to help your family survive through a similar tragedy.

Take a step back and survey your situation. This shouldn't take long. Then get a piece of paper, and make a list of the key things anybody who steps into your shoes in the event of an unexpected tragedy should know. Then, pass this list onto your spouse or whoever will step-up to straighten out your affairs if you die or are incapacitated.

All good estate planners can help with this. It isn't hard. What's hard is if you do have a tragedy and haven't taken the steps to lighten the blow to your family.

Enough of this awful topic.

Have a healthy and protected week.
